Afresh has grown by leaps and bounds in 2021, from opening a new office in downtown San Francisco to welcoming more than 80 new team members. As we wind down the year, we’re celebrating some massive milestones, with many more to come in 2022. It’s an exciting time to join us at Afresh!
What we do
Afresh is the first Fresh Operating System built specifically to help grocers increase sales, empower store teams, stock fresher food, and reduce waste. So far, our partners have ordered $1.6 billion of produce with Afresh and prevented 6.9 million pounds of food from going to waste.
Where we are
With over 125 Afreshies living across 17 states, distributed work is an essential part of our business. Even while working remotely, we’ve found meaningful ways to build community together.
Back in November, 31 Afreshies gathered near our San Francisco HQ to kick off our partnership with the SF-Marin Food Bank. We packed 650 grocery bags filled with fresh produce like carrots, eggplants, and, of course, bananas. Each month, Afresh will provide 5 in-person volunteers at the Bessie Carmichael pop-up and make a recurring financial contribution.
Throughout the year, we contributed a collective $12,000 to organizations including the Asian American Justice Center, Black Girls Code, and Sylvia Rivera Law Project.
The city of Austin is home to a growing concentration of Afresh Engineers, with 8 Afreshies currently calling the Lone Star state their home. Not missing a beat, this local crew gathers monthly for social outings like rock climbing and also volunteered to sort through 7,000 pounds of food at the Central Texas Food Bank the week of Thanksgiving.
Who we are
As a company, we’ve won 5 awards this year, including Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas and Interbrand’s Global Breakthrough Brand. Plus, we’re Great Place to Work-Certified.
Each time a new Afreshie hops on board, they’re asked to introduce themselves in a company all-hands with their favorite fresh produce item. Well, the numbers are in, and Afreshies’ top 3 favorite fruits are bananas (12), pineapples (13), and avocados (16).
Over in the veggie drawer, broccoli (15), mushrooms (15), and Brussels sprouts (17) weighed in as the top selections. (Yes, that’s right, Brussels sprouts are #1!)
So, you might have guessed that as a company, we like food, and talking about food, a lot. While there are currently 66 Afreshies in the #food Slack channel, that’s the same number as folks in #doggo (66). Sorry, cat lovers, #gato (34) has about half that.
Looking to 2022
We’re proud to announce that we shared our first annual Impact Report last week! If you haven’t already, take a peek to learn even more about what we’ve been up to this year. As we continue to grow our team and build new partnerships in 2022 and beyond, we can’t wait to expand our impact on people and the planet.
And on that note, the new year waits for no one. So if you’re thinking about making a career change, there are plenty of open opportunities to join our team of changemakers.
